Pellervo Coop Center
Central Organisation of Finnish Cooperatives
About Pellervo
Pellervo is a service and a lobbying organisation for all Finnish co-operatives and mutuals and a forum for co-operative activities.
Our goal is to make the co-operative and mutual business model more known to the public and offer the co-operative model as a competitive alternative for those thinking about starting a business.
Pellervo was founded in 1899 and the Pellervo name comes from the national epic of Finland Kalevala where Sampsa Pellervoinen is the patron of field and harvest.
Advocacy work
Pellervo strives to influence the legislative work and the economic and financial policies in Finland to accommodate the cooperative business model.

Cooperative companies are committed to increasing diversity and equality in their activities
The Society’s Commitment to Sustainable Development is a key instrument for implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Finland.
Pellervo made an umbrella commitment in 2019 and has challenged all cooperatives to join it with their own operational commitments and to increase diversity and equality in their activities.
Less than half of the young people in Finland can define cooperative as a company
The biggest challenge for the cooperative movement is that the business model is not sufficiently known. At the request of Pellervo Coop Center, Kantar TNS surveyed the attitudes of Finns aged 18-30 towards cooperatives and collaborative entrepreneurship.
